We've heard about "drunk-dialing", "drunk-texting"; but how about "drunk-emailing" or "angry-emailing"?

Have you ever send an email and regretted it a few seconds after? Have you ever wished you could use that powerful option on your computer called: "undo" to reverse that email from reaching it's destination? - Well, let me tell you that if you are a Gmail user, now you can!

How does it work?

Once you send an email using your Gmail-based email account, your email will be held on your account for "30 seconds of grace" (how we've decided to call it). What this means is that once you press the Send button, you'll have 30 seconds to regret sending this message and prevent it from reaching its final destination.

Google enabled this "Undo" feature a while back but it only had a "5 seconds grace period".

How to enable Gmail's Undo feature?

  1. Login to your Gmail account (http://www.gmail.com)
  2. Access Gmail Labs
    - If you are using a domain-based email address hosted with Google (i.e.: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ):
Access Gmail Labs by clicking the green beaker on top, next to "Manage this domain

    - If you are using a free version of Gmail (i.e.: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ): click on Settings on the top area next to your email address.

  3. Once on the labs, you'll need to scroll down (or search) until you find "Undo Send"
  4. Click on "Enable" to turn this feature on.
  5. Scroll down and click "Save Changes".
  6. To undo a message, type a new email message and click Send. After you click send a message will show up saying "Your message has been sent" with the word "Undo" next to it. Click "Undo" and you'll be able to edit or delete the message. Once your 30 seconds are through, your message will be sent.
